Documentary Highlights Homeless Artists

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES - Adocumentary premiering during the Downtown Art Walk on Thursday, Sept. 11, will spotlight homeless and formerly homeless Skid Row artists. Produced, written and directed by independent filmmakers Letitia Popa Schwartz and Judith Vogelsang, Humble Beauty: Skid Row Artists follows the lives of several subjects as they create art while on the streets. It will be screened at 7 p.m. at the New LATC, at 514 S. Spring St. The premiere will be followed by an art exhibit featuring the work of Skid Row painters, including several from the film. "We're thrilled about the Humble Beauty film, which features many talented Skid Row artists and their work," said Anita Nelson, CEO of SRO Housing Corp., which is organizing the event. "The film, combined with the art show, shines a bright, new light on the undiscovered talents within the Skid Row community."
