New Lounge Opens In Bonaventure
News Brief
Culminating two years of planning, Suede Bar & Lounge held a grand opening in its ground-floor space at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel, at 404 S. Figueroa St., on Monday, July 7. The bar began serving June 22. Co-owners Lillian Gastelum and Richard Valenzuela are hoping to attract a post-work, Financial District crowd. Suede fills a 2,200-square-foot space that has been vacant for three years. Gastelum and Valenzuela spent about $475,000 to overhaul the interior in, naturally, red suede. The lush design aims to create a dim, intimate atmosphere conducive to relaxation, Gastelum said. A DJ spins house music during happy hour and in the evenings, and a cigar humidor and outdoor patio accommodate smokers. "It's a place where people can come and feel good, have a nice beat, have a good drink and be able to converse," Valenzuela said. Suede is now hosting a happy hour Monday through Friday from 4-8 p.m. with well drinks, wine, draft beer and appetizers for $4. More information is at suedebarla.com.
