Broadway in the Spotlight
News Brief
Fourteenth District City Councilman José Huizar and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa on Monday will detail plans aimed at bringing back the historic Broadway theater district. Several theater and property owners will attend the Jan. 28 morning press conference at the Los Angeles Theatre. Huizar, who is spearheading the effort, envisions connecting the district to some of Downtown's largest developments including L.A. Live and Grand Avenue. The goal is to attract restaurants, retail and nightlife venues to the underused theaters and structures lining the corridor. A handful of theaters are slowly being renovated, while several new residential developments are helping to spur interest in the neglected strip stretching from Third Street to Olympic Boulevard.
